{MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #1}

I get a bit lost from time to time on what to write, so I decided I would start utilizing a few blog prompts to get my creative juices flowing again. I’m hoping that answering these questions allows you to get to know me more, and allows me to get a deeper look at me.

1. How did you and your spouse/significant other meet?

I have been blessed to know Chris forever, basically. Or, at least as far back as middle school goes. When I got my driver’s license, I used to drive him and his brother to the private school we all attended together. We attended church camps together, hung out with the same small group of friends, and he dated my younger sister for quite a while.

Now, that sounds like it could cause some issues in life, but it doesn’t.  First, my sister is amazing and only wants to see me happy so it’s okay with her if I married her ex-boyfriend. (Actually, our baby sister married one of my ex-boyfriends. THIS is what happens when you attend a small private school, though.) Second, Chris in this lifetime is a different Chris from our previous lifetime, and the stuff in between that changed him is the stuff that would have been difficult for some to understand/accept/get over. Then again, the same is true of my two different selfs, which makes us just perfect for one another.

2. What is the best thing about being a MilSpouse?

Being a Den Mother. And, please, notice how quickly I answered that, without any hesitation. I LOVE taking care of our “boys” and their young wives. I love the immediate family that exists in a grunt unit (though, unfortunately, not at our current duty station). And, I love the way military friends can be spewed out of the mouth of the DoD to all ends of the planet and not let it affect your friendship, not even for one second.

3. What is the hardest thing about being a MilSpouse?

Hmmm. Well, deployments are not my favorite, for certain.  The danger involved is breath-taking for a Marine Grunt: let’s be honest, he signed a blank check to the United States Government for an amount up to and including his life. The loneliness I’ve experienced in this duty station has been a bit of a bummer as well, but that’s because I let it be so much too often.

4. What is your favorite dish?

I LOVE random questions like this!  Currently, in our Paleo lifestyle, my favorite dish is mahi mahi with fresh mango salsa! Previously, in my carb-induced-coma-lifestyle, it was homemade noodles with chicken and mashed potatoes and sweet corn. (I don’t care if that’s several dishes – when it goes on my plate, it all mixes together!)

5. If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?

I am tempted to answer this with a heart-wrenching: give me my children back! (This non-custodial parent thing is no fun.) But, because that is very selfish and not necessarily in their best interests, I will say instead: to keep the wolf from their doorstep.  And, thankfully, I live my life as a Military Spouse with a HERO who does just that.
