My mom is unemployed currently. It’s not her choice, she’s looking for another job, and it just pretty much sucks for my parents, especially financially. But, that’s where she is, and I for one, am a bit thankful. It means I get to talk to her. A LOT.
So, today we were chatting away, and she shared with me something she taught about last week at their church. It really made me think pretty deeply very quickly, and my creative juices started flowing. So, today I want to share with you the Paradoxical Commandments, as written by Dr. Kent M. Keith. (You can find them here.) For the next few days/weeks/however long it takes me (because it’s my blog, and no one puts me on a deadline), I will be writing about each of these statements. But, without further ado…..
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can
be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
